Ubiquitous Web 2.0

Computer World 30 July 2007:

"About 80% of the top 20 most-visited Web sites are Web 2.0-enabled, according to Dan Hubbard, vice-president of security research for Internet security provider Websense Inc."

Whilst this article is primarily about the security (or lack of) associated with Web 2.0 I found the snippet above interesting from an educational point of view. If it is true then there is no way that today's young people are going to allow the communication/interaction web 2.0 provides them to disappear. As educators we had better get used to this fact and get ourselves web 2.0 conversant. Do you agree with this? Take the poll

We had a 12 year old from the US staying with us recently. Forget about youngsters clogging up your phone line. Our visitor stayed in touch with her US and NZ friends via MSM and NZ friends via mobile texting. As she gets older I can only see her online connectedness increasing.
