I am always onthe lookout for new definitions of a good teacher. Here is one I found recently on the Blogs / Weblogs in Higher Education blog:

A good teacher respects the powerful ideas that were created by our ancestors and carefully passes them along to students, while also respecting the new ways the next generation will understand and use those ideas to meet their own needs."
