Southampton to offer free online access to all research

JISC reports that Southampton will be offering free access to all their research. "A decision by the University to provide core funding for its Institutional Repository establishes it as a central part of its research infrastructure, marking a new era for Open Access to academic research in the UK."

Of the 3 articles I looked at in the "latest" section however, two gave the cotation and metadata and one additionally had the abstract. I don't yet see this replacing the literature databases we all use at the moment. Wasn't quite the earth shattering news I thouhgt it might be. Smacks rather of reinventing the wheel at the mo. Will be worth seeing where this goes though.
