ASSESSING DISCURSIVE WRITING
An article from Stephen Downes, that explores some of the issues involved in assessing discursive writing - the sort of writing we would expect to find in student essays or on discussion boards. He looks at two major criteria: sentence construction, and reasoning. An interesting read for those of you who are venturing into including the use of bulletin boards and discussion groups within your courses, and are wondering how to grade them (if at all?). Here are some thoughts from someone who has been there already.
